Panama’s role as a regional base for global business continues to grow. On Wednesday, October 21, Minister of Commerce and Industries Julio Moltó presented the country’s latest investment results during a World Economic Forum session in Panama City titled “The Future of Panama as a Global Platform.” Between January and August 2026, new companies entering the Multinational Headquarters (SEM) regime rose 120 percent compared with the same period last year.
Multinational Headquarters Gain Momentum
As of May 2026, Panama hosted 192 companies under the SEM regime, following 13 new licenses granted during 2025. These headquarters now account for 11,500 direct jobs, and projected employment rose 174 percent between January and August 2026. Operating in technology, logistics, financial services, and the digital economy, these companies continue to bring specialized roles and global expertise to the local workforce.
Investment Built on Long-Term Confidence
During the first half of 2026, Panama received $792.4 million in foreign direct investment. A significant share came from reinvestment by companies already operating in the country, a clear sign of long-term confidence from those who know Panama best. Service exports also reached a record $20.19 billion in 2025 and grew 12.7 percent in the first half of 2026.
A Platform Connected to the World
Panama holds 23 trade agreements that provide preferential access to more than 60 markets, and its status as an associate state of MERCOSUR strengthens ties with South America. Combined with the Panama Canal, ports on two oceans, and a regional air hub, this connectivity remains central to the country’s appeal.
What This Means for Living in Panama
As regional headquarters expand, so does the community of international executives and families relocating to Panama City. Many seek residences close to the business districts where they work, with the services and lifestyle their families expect.
Costa del Este, home to the regional offices of several international companies, reflects this demand. The newly launched Sensa offers park-front residences built around Well-Living, minutes from the financial district. Those curious about this new chapter in Costa del Este can discover more about Sensa.
